Happiii Neww Year!
I'm just
going to jump right in:
This morning we met with an awesome
potential investigator (the only time he could meet) he loved learning how to
pray and he was SO EXCITED to receive a book of Mormon.
Today we went to a market to try to
find fabric and we walked through the most Asian scene you can imagine. All I
could think of was the quote from Kung Fu Panda "we are noodle folk! Broth
runs through our veins!" There were dead ducks hanging on hooks, and other
various raw meats, fish everywhere, pots of chicken and sauce, a truck passed
us by full of pig snouts, and then chains upon chains of flowers for Buddhist
rituals.
Helped a less active Sister start her
family history! She got all of her family photos and records out and loved it!
She came to Church yesterday.
Lots of people canceled on us/didn't
show up. Classic. Life of a missionary. Yay! Missionary work!
This week we had a zone fast and then I
had a personal study all about fasting, and then the next day one of the
sisters in my district had the idea to do a 40 Day Fast, fasting from things
that are holding us back and to start that you have to open with a fast. And
then next Sunday is fast Sunday. I've been eating a ton though so don't worry.
Yay! Fasting! Hunger pains and spiritual growth!
We've been getting a lot of 0.5
referrals. Members will say that they have a friend that might be interested
and might have mentioned the church to them before (which is awesome) and then
that's about it... so we have a lot of following up to do to get the whole
referral. We need the member to invite them, and then we make contact. But hey
a bunch of 0.5's are better than 0's and the 0.5's will add up! Yay! Optimism!
Hope!
Sports night: lately we have been
trying to get sports night up and going so members feel comfortable bringing
their friends. So anyways one of the people there playing is this fatter Thai
guy (It's not rude to say fat here :) he can't really play but what he does is
scare people when playing. So we'll say "hey go guard that person"
and if that person gets the ball he'll go at them in a power shuffle and scare
them. It's actually pretty effective.
Bearing 48: we had an investigator (who
is now dubbed a former investigator) who actually answered his phone for the
first time in forever. He agrees to an appointment, but we asked if we can meet
with his family too. He says yes, so we agree to meet at his family's house. He
says her house is at Bearing street 48 and that he would tell us what house on
this street when we get there (red light). So the day of the appointments comes
and he doesn't answer in the morning when we call to confirm so then we think
"ok great it's not happening" but we decide to use faith and show up
to the street. I'm thinking that Bearing 48 is like Bearing 38 (38 is a cute
little one way dead end neighbourhood with like 20 houses). So we get there and
it's a big road. And we think "oh great." But we decide to walk down
a ways to see if he answers or if we can talk to someone who knows him or his
family. We walk a ways and then we get to a 3 way cross roads. We talk to the
motorcycle taxi guys and they laugh at us a little when we tell them that we
are looking for someone on Bearing 48 and then they tell us that the street
splits into 7 different streets/neighbourhoods. We just had to stop and laugh
in frustration a little. Then we walked all the way back down and then we
missed the สองแถ้ว (mode of transportation) back to the way of the church so we had
to walk from there all the way back to the church. Biggest joke... So yeah
after that we dropped him. After walking that long and far in rubber shoes gets
a little blistery. 😆😂😭
I have been loving being a missionary.
I love saying the first vision, promising blessings, and talking to everyone
and saying Happy New Year and wishing everyone health and happiness (that's
what everyone does here around new years).
Love,
